About Conundrum Hot Springs
General:
Conundrum Hot Springs is an undeveloped set of mineral pools in the Elk Range between Apsen and Crested Butte, CO. You must hike to get here, but the reward is worth the effort. The views from Conundrum Hot Springs are some of the best in the state.
Conundrum is among the highest hot springs in North America at 12,000 feet. Looking around the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, you see Colorado nature at its finest.
Facility:
The hike begins around 9,000 feet and climbs 3,000 feet to these Colorado hot springs (some 8.5 miles). There are several pools varying in size and temperature. Some of the large pools can host several people and are about 3 feet deep. Temperatures vary but seem to average around 100 degrees in the larger pools. The small pools tend to be cooler.
Overnight camping is allowed and encouraged if you got the supplies. On a clear night, you will see a trillion stars lit up in the sky.
Atmosphere:
Alcohol is welcome and clothing is optional. Nude locals are known to frequent the region.
